Day 2: getting wet! Cyclone Marcia

Today was wet wet wet. Cyclone Marcia crossed the coast at about 7.30 this morning and it has rained and poured all day. After bacon and eggs for breakfast and searching for spiders and gekos, we managed to get in  a short walk in not much rain, we went looking for frogs but didn't find any.

Golden Orb spider (a small one but the kids think it's gigantic)

Magpie Larks (pee wees) on the roof next door

Grasshopper

We went to Underwater World aquarium which was awesome! We took heaps of photos! Shakira's favourite part was the sting rays, Theresa's favourite was the seal show, Ollie's was the sharks and Shania's was the seal show. Chris liked the turtles and got picked out of the crowd to feed a seal. Haidee liked the walk-though tunnel with all the sting rays and sharks, and touching a blue star fish.

A shark!

Unfortunately though, they had to close due to the rain as they were worried that people would not be able to get through flooding on the roads so they gave us a pass to come back some other time (not that we'll be able to) and hurried us through the last 2 exhibits and out the door.

We got into the car (quite wet) and headed home. We heard on the radio that the road was flooded about 100m from Tom and Courtney's house so we had to take a detour. But once we got back we went for a walk down the road to have a look. We got absolutely drenched!

After a quick bath/shower and a change of clothes, we put on a movie and had some sausages for lunch. We had some popcorn and played some games.

Playing "too many" (Black Jack) with Tom

After afternoon tea we went to the shopping centre and found a lollie shop and educated the kids on fizzers and super sour warheads. On the way home we saw the beach and the water was brown. We didn't stop because the beaches are all closed because of the cyclone. It's meant to hit the Sunshine Coast some time tonight but has been downgraded to a level 2 now (so far).

Warheads are sour

Really sour

We came home to check out the news and have some pizza for dinner. We spotted some wildlife as dark came. Then we went to bed.
